Info:
Linux
Installs on desktop or laptop systems in roughly ## min.
It can be placed on a seperate partition and run alongside Windows,
UNIX, Mac OS, etc and is available on some Silicon Graphics servers.
It is not a completely automatic installation process. The Red Hat
installer is text-based, not GUI driven so you must scroll
through text menus to pick your preferences and type your commands.
Red Hat attempts to identify your SCSI devices- Ethernet
cards, and graphics adapter automatically,
however if it can't find out all the details you'll need to enter
them yourself so, keep a complete list of your system's hardware
handy.
Red Hat's GNOME (GNU Network Object Model Environment) GUI is a
standard windows type interface.
BeOS understands common
file types and disk formats, so you can read and copy files from
other operating systems. BeOS is expandable allowing the addition
of to four processors to meet your performance and productivity
needs.
The actual
OS code is very small and is able to load driver functionality when
it needs it, and then free the memory afterwards. This keeps the
kernel small and fast unlike other operating systems which load
everything you need regardless of whether your system requires it
or not.
